Red Butte Creek Oil Spill
On June 13, a pipeline was discovered to be leaking oil in the Red Butte Creek area of Utah, USA. The pipeline is connected to Chevron Corporation’s oil refinery in Salt Lake City, Utah. A hole about the size of a U.S. quarter was causing the oil leak. By the time the pipeline hole was discovered, an oil spill of approximately 800 barrels of oil had flowed into the surrounding area. The area includes Red Butte Creek and the Jordan River. The Jordan River winds its way through the Salt Lake Valley and eventually enters the Great Salt Lake. Gulf Oil Spill Video of Work in Progress
Kevin Davis, President of St. Tammany Parrish, along with the St. Tammany Parrish Sheriff’s Office, provide video footage of work that is being done in the gulf oil spill. Oil Arrives On Panama City Beach
I visited Panama City Beach, Florida on Saturday, June 19th. Tarballs from the gulf oil spill had just begun to arrive on the sugary white beaches. This photo shows workers heading home for the night after a long day of collecting the tarballs. The collection bags are visible on the back of the truck. The photo was made at 5:00 pm local time.
