Gulf Oil Spill Health Complaints Mount

The Louisiana Dept. of Health and Hospitals (LDHH) is tracking and evaluating health complaints related to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Data is being collected and maintained by the Office of Public Health, Section of Environmental Epidemiology & Toxicology (SEET). Data is collected from hospital emergency departments, outpatient clinics, physician’s offices, and the Louisiana Poison Control Center. Through June 6th, there have been 71 health complaints related to exposure to chemical pollutants from the oil spill. These complaints were from people working in oil spill related activity when exposed. Most of the complaints were throat irritation, nausea, headaches, and eye irritation.
